Who We Are

Kenyan Agency for Rural Development (KARD), an affiliate of the Tides Center, promotes sustainable community development in the rural but rapidly growing region of the Makueni district in Kenya. Specifically, KARD promotes programming aimed at creating opportunity for self-sufficiency among the rural poor population residing in this area. Our vision is the harmonious creation of rural communities that are fair, free, and just - striving to ensure that all people, regardless of their social status, have dignified lives via equal access to and control over available resources. This is a particularly relevant concern in Kenya because of the corruption and social imbalance that has accompanied the recent rapid influx of information and technology to this developing nation.
